Louis van Gaal will be a "strong and direct" choice to manage Manchester United, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand was informed by United he will not be offered a new contract last week, bringing the curtain down on a 12-year career at Old Trafford.
However, he is fully supportive of Van Gaal's inevitable arrival in Manchester.
