Louis Van Gaal Appointment As Manchester United Manager Delayed Until Next Week

King Louis's United Coronation Delayed

Louis van Gaal's appointment as the new Manchester United manager will be delayed until next week.

It will allow the Holland coach to concentrate on preparations for their pre-World Cup friendly with Ecuador in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Van Gaal, 62, has agreed terms to succeed David Moyes at Old Trafford, but there are a few minor issues yet to be resolved before his confirmation.

United announced Moyes would succeed Sir Alex Ferguson two days before Everton's final home game of the season with West Ham United last year, and were criticised for their tawdry handling of the announcement.

Ryan Giggs flew out to Amsterdam on Wednesday to meet Van Gaal and will be the Dutchman's assistant next season. Giggs arrived back in time to be in attendance at Old Trafford to see United lose the Premier League Under-21 final to Chelsea last night.

His assistants, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, could remain at the club coaching the Under-18s, however Phil Neville and goalkeeping coach Chris Woods, who both followed Moyes from Everton, look set to leave the club.

United's Q3 accounts will be published at midday, and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will hold a conference call with investors at 1pm.
