The Mercedes F1 team have shown that Michael Schumacher is still very much in their thoughts as they prepare to unveil their challenger for the new F1 season.

The team teased Tuesday's reveal by publishing images on Twitter as well as publishing a video but it was clearly their former driver that the team wanted to highlight.

Accompanying a detail photo of the Mercedes W05 was the hashtag #KeepFightingMichael in honour of the seven times world champion who has been in a coma following a skiing accident on 29 December.

Mercedes are one of five teams unveiling their cars at Jerez in Spain where the first pre-season test is taking place. The others include Red Bull, Williams, Caterham and Marussia.

The test will give teams the first opportunity to see their opponents in action in the new turbo era, with many anticipating a difficult first few months of the F1 season. Lotus will be conspicuous by their absence, just days after team boss Eric Boullier quit.

Last week, McLaren driver Jenson Button said: “I don’t think anybody’s anticipating the next few months to be easy – I can’t imagine anybody in the pitlane would admit to that – but our aim must be to make progress all the time, and to learn positively as we go.”
