Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tioté has had his car seized by police after he was arrested over alleged fraud offences.

According to the Chronicle, the Ivory Coast international was stopped while driving his Chevrolet Camaro near the club's Benton training ground on Tuesday.

He was arrested him on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences before his £75,000 sports car was uplifted.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At around 1.30pm on Tuesday, a car was stopped on Benton Park Road, Newcastle, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences.”

The car was towed away and the spokesman added enquiries are ongoing.

Tioté recently returned from African Cup of Nations duty and came on as a substitute in the Magpies' weekend defeat at Tottenham.
