Franck Ribéry is just the latest international whose World Cup aspirations have been ended by injury, after the France international's back problems forced coach Didier Deschamps to call up a replacement.

Absences via injury are inevitable ahead of a major tournament, but the list seems longer - and better - than usual this year. Colombia and Belgium, two dark horses, are deprived of their main marksmen, Germany are bereft of arguably their most creative central midfielder and Holland are missing their best midfielder.
