Sir George Young To Lead For The Government In Today's Opposition Day Debate

Where's Cameron? Sir George Young To Lead For The Government In Today's Debate
|

Poor Sir George Young. First he was beaten in his quest to be speaker (twice), now he's being forced to represent the government in this afternoon's Commons debate asking Murdoch to withdraw his BSkyB bid.

The Leader of the House will be standing in for the prime minister, whose prior commitments may even prevent him from voting ("He will certainly be trying to vote, notwithstanding his other commitments this afternoon", Number 10 said). His deputy, Liberal Democrat MP David Heath will wrap the debate up.

The PM will still be making a statement at 12:30 - but Ed Miliband's press team have already attacked David Cameron for the no-show (tweeting: "Cameron no-show in Commons debate is a failure to lead - for about the fifth time in 10 days"), whereas EyeSpyMP have started off a #whereisdave hashtag.
