Why America Needs To #UniteNotFight

At the 74th Golden Globes, actress Meryl Streep won plaudits for what many have called an 'inspiring' call to action against Donald Trump. But to me, it was a stupid, petty, pointless thing to do.

You see, as we all know, Donald Trump will be inaugurated on 20th January. There will be protests. But why don't Americans do something more productive? Such as Uniting as one, to fight the establishment, to fight extremism, to fight terror.

Trump is not exactly a nice man, that goes without saying. Some of the things he has done are disgraceful. But where does moaning actually get you, America? He won the election. Not by the popular vote, granted, but he won. And there is nothing you can do to change that now. How about instead of fighting, moaning and ranting, you all accept that he is your President, whether you like it or not. I am in no way condoning anything he has done, but I simply don't want to see a great country like the USA divided the way it has been for decades.

Many of the Americans will never accept Trump. Many will complain until he's gone. But as I've said, It achieves NOTHING! Meryl Streep called him out for promoting bullying, and yet by doing that, she too, is promoting bullying. "But it's Trump, we should bully him" I know many of you will say. But surely that is counter-productive? You campaign to stop bullying, and yet you bully the bully. It isn't right. Nobody should ever be bullied, not even a bully. He needs to be taught the error of his ways, not be the victim of vile hate speech that I would doubt even he would go as far as saying.

There is a website called ihatetrump.com. How awful is that? Freedom of speech is a brilliant thing, but only when used correctly. This site lambasts him for spreading hate, yet they seem incapable of realising that they are spreading hate themselves. It's hypocrisy at the highest level. What makes things worse is how most of the articles on that website link to blogs on this very site.

I am against bullying full stop. And I am not willing to see Trump bullied even as a punishment for himself being a bully. It saddens me to see people preaching so much hatred when they claim to be a force for good. By spreading the hate, it only divides America more.

This is why I want my not so original #UniteNotFight to be trending on Twitter. I want more positivity to be spread. We all have our own opinion on Trump, I accept that. But if you love him or loathe him, you need to accept that he is going to be President. I don't think anybody really wants to see his presidency fail, because it would severely damage America. But the only way America will remain stable under Trump is if the American people all unite as one to support their president, whether you like him or not. The USA is a deeply patriotic country, so how about you let your love of America rule you rather than your hatred for Trump!
