There are plenty of similarities between Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage. They both have European wives, they both attended prestigious public schools. Farage was a Tory before switching party. Likewise, Clegg used to be a Lib Dem before... you can see where we were going with that.

Of course there are differences too - mainly popularity.

So ahead of Wednesday EU debate, we celebrate these two notables of British political culture, and particularly their likeness in listicle form. Here are 13 pictures of Clegg and Farage doing exactly the same thing.

Press Association photographers have even taken the time out to comment on the unique amusing moments they captured of two leaders in action.

Andrew Milligan said: "The image shows UKIP leader Nigel Farage during a visit to Rig Deluge to campaign ahead of the Aberdeen Donside by-election. The press photographers had arrived at Rig Deluge hoping we would capture him extinguishing a fire with one of the rig's hoses. Instead, the equipment was much smaller than we expected, so Farage posed as if he was smoking a cigar."

Andrew Milligan said: "Nigel Farage has a coffee as he campaigns for the Aberdeen Donside by-election at Fourmile House Hotel. There was a fair amount of interest in the Farage visit to Aberdeen, as his previous visit to Scotland resulted in the leader being chased into an Edinburgh pub by protesters. Farage is always quite happy to have his picture taken with a pint, so I thought a cup of coffee would give us something different."

Gareth Fuller said: "This was shot at the end of a day of campaigning towards the end of the last general election. It was a photo call in a pub and I remember it being packed inside and out. I snapped this frame after the usual pictures of him at the bar and you can tell from his eyes how tiring an election tour can be sometimes."

Andrew Milligan said: " Nigel Farage drinks a pint of Edinburgh No. 3 Ale at the Cannons Gait pub during a visit to the capital as part of a plan to build upon UKIP's electoral gains in England and increase its share of vote in Scotland. Nigel was in Scotland ahead of a forthcoming by-election and decided to meet journalists in a local pub, where he took refuge after evading angry protesters in the street. Afterwards he was escorted by police into a waiting police van."

Ben Birchall said: "I captured this fleeting moment of Farage mask-wearing UKIP supporters outside the rear of the UKIP Spring conference in Torquay as they were handing out leaflets. At the time of shooting it wasn’t clear if they were supporters or not, as I was desperately zooming-in to get a tight image of the heads to create one of those 'double take' shots that can be quite powerful in a newspaper."
