Labour's Lucy Powell Nearly Lost It During 'Sunday Politics'

Labour's Lucy Powell appeared in one of the most combative interviews in recent months on Sunday morning, clashing with Andrew Neil over deficit reduction.

The MP for Manchester Central joined the 'Sunday Politics' studio via video link and was immediately pulled up over proposed tax raises.

Labour have pledged to reintroduce the 50p top rate of income tax as part of a "three-pronged" approach to reducing the nation's budget deficit.

Within a minute of the interview starting Powell was already clashing with the host.

Neil insisted analysis of Labour figures could only account for £1 billion of savings despite claims to the contrary.

When pushed on this point, Powell could only say that it was "more than that" blaming the lack of figures on evaluations yet to be carried out.

Both repeatedly spoke over each other throughout the interview with the Labour MP regularly looking on the verge of losing her cool.

Powell angrily said: "You aren't listening to what I am saying."

With 39 days left until the one of the most unpredictable general elections ever, no doubt we can expect more such interviews in the weeks to come.
