The Original Woody Allen Stand-Up Bit That Inspired 'Midnight In Paris' Rediscovered Online (AUDIO)

The Surprising Inspiration For Woody Allen's 'Midnight In Paris'
|

A big ol' tip of the cap to the clever people over at The Nerdist for unearthing this revealing gem about the origins of Woody Allen's most financially successful movie to date, Midnight In Paris.

For those not in the know, 2012's Best Screenplay Oscar winner is a story about a Woody Allen-like character called Gil Pender who discovers a way of being transported back to the 1920s if he sits at the right place at the right time. That's right, somewhere in Paris, at midnight. Spoiler, we know.

But the inspiration behind said story comes from somewhere you may not have expected - a Woody Allen stand-up routine dating from the mid-1960s.

You can check out the audio version of the bit above, which touches on some pretty similar themes to the movie - the Fitzgeralds, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein - but with some extra-added punching thrown in for good measure.

It's very enlightening for us Woody fans here at Huffington Post UK Towers - but it does make us wonder... when can we expect The Moose (see below) on the big screen? The sooner the better Woody, the sooner the better.
