John Oliver told America exactly what it’s like for the rest of the world to watch the Super Bowl.

Appearing on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' on Thursday, the Birmingham-born comedian launched into a lively rant about the NFL’s showpiece event.

Letterman asked Oliver whether he’d been “brainwashed” into the Super Bowl way of life.

“Oh, brainwashed is the right word, because I’m on a green card,” said Oliver, adding: “I think if I don’t watch the Super Bowl then I get ejected.”

The Briton, whose Sunday night show 'Last Week Tonight' has proved a huge hit in the US, goes on to reason that the Super Bowl represents “peak America”, and that of all the sporting events in the world this is the "most intimidating”.
