Incredible Pictures Of Violence In Donetsk As Pro-Russian Protesters Clash With Anti-Government Rivals
|

Violent clashes have broken out in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk, leaving at least one dead and scores injured. The bloodshed began when hundreds of protesters chanting pro-Russian songs broke through police barriers in the city centre, leading to clashes with rival anti-government demonstrators, who were protesting Russia’s recent intervention in Crimea.

According to the BBC, members of the pro-Russia demonstration threw smoke bombs and fire crackers, after which fights broke out. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the one fatality was caused by a stab wound. The death marks the first outside the capital city of Kiev since trouble flared late last year.
