After months of rumours and speculation about what's next for Britain's most offensive comedian, Channel 4 confirmed Monday its in talks with Frankie Boyle to create a new comedy programme, reports the trade press magazine Broadcast.

Though few details have been released about what's in store, fans can expect a topical comedy show with a live audience that will be piloted later this year.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 told Broadcast: "Tramadol Nights was a creative one-off series for Frankie Boyle. C4 and Frankie are working together on a new comedy vehicle with a topical focus. Hopefully a new pilot will record later in the year but it is still very much a work in progress."

According to the British Comedy Guide, The Comedy Unit, the Glasgow production company behind Tramadol Nights, won't be invited to produce the new show.

The news of Boyle returning to Channel 4 comes after the Scot caused uproar with a joke referencing model Katie Price's disabled son, which featured in his hit sketch comedy Tramadol Nights. The controversial joke breached broadcasting guidelines leading Channel 4 to confirm the show wouldn't be returning.

In an interview with the Guardian, Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt added she'd gladly welcome back Boyle, but needs to find the right show for him.
