Republican Presidential Debate: Everything You Need To Know About This Clown Car Of A Debate

The Weirdest Things To Come Out Of The Republican Presidential Debate
|

Fox News hosted the Republican Party's first debate for their presidential candidates on Thursday night, and it was one of the weirdest televised political events we've ever seen. Mostly because Donald Trump was involved.

Firstly, the sheer size - there were 17 potential nominees vying to be the GOP's candidate. This became a problem, prompting Fox to split into two debates. The first was with the 7 who were lowest in the polls, then the main event was the top 10.

Secondly, it was the fact that in 2015 a presidential frontrunners debate consisted of 90% elderly white men, and 100% elderly men. The only woman in sight was Carly Fiorina, who was relegated to the low-rankers debate, and Megyn Kelly, one of the hosts of the the Fox show.

Then there was everything that came out of Donald Trump's mouth - as the loudest and the public favourite, he seemed to be given the most airtime. Which meant we got even more laughable quotes from him than any other nominee.

Here's a selection of Trump's oddest quotes of the night:

  1. "Only Rosie O'Donnell," when asked about his offensive remarks made towards women.
  2. "I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct," when asked about the time he told an Apprentice candidate she would look better "on her knees".
  3. "If Iran was a stock, you folks should go out and buy it right now because it will quadruple. What's happening in Iran is a disgrace and it's going to lead to destruction in large portions of the world," when asked about the Iran deal.
  4. "We don't win anymore... We don't do anything right," in his closing statement.

And when Donald wasn't talking about women in a derogatory way or fumbling over facts and figures, he was talking about himself:

Perhaps the next wildest thing to come out of the debate was the fact that Jeb Bush seemed so incredibly different from his brother, but that's probably what he's been working on in the six years since George W's presidency.

And while half of the Republican party were on TV arguing over why they should lead the party into the next general election, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton was off partying with Kim and Kanye.

Despite her total obliviousness, Hillary was mentioned. A lot. More than most of the nation's most pressing issues.

Something else slightly worrying was that nobody seemed able to count, as this video shows:

The whole experience spanned four hours, but at the end of the debate the entire thing could be summed up in one gif.
