A Spaniard holidaying in Ukraine prior to Euro 2012 has been found dead after a month-long search, it has been reported.

According to AFP, police in the Donetsk region of the country had launched a search for the unnamed 46-year-old man - who was holidaying in the region ahead of Euro 2012 - after staff at the hotel he was staying in in the town of Makeyevka reported him missing.

The police are reported to have detained three men suspected of murdering the man.

Holders Spain are based in Poland and play their first match of the tournament on Sunday in Gdansk.

The tournament opened last night, with co-hosts Poland drawing with Greece, and Russia defeating the Czech Republic 4-1.
