Police Watchdog Investigates Fatal M25 Crash

A crash in which a man died when his BMW collided with a lorry after police tried to stop the vehicle will be investigated by the police watchdog.

The M25 was closed clockwise between junctions 10 and 11 after the silver BMW collided with the back of an articulated lorry at around 11.55pm on Monday, Surrey Police said.

The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene and has yet to be formally identified. The lorry driver was uninjured.

The incident occurred near junction 11 at Chertsey, and Surrey police said in a statement that "police had attempted to stop the vehicle shortly before the collision".

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which was at the scene on Tuesday morning.

The M25 clockwise was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
