It won't win any classical awards or play the Royal Albert Hall but these maggoty-looking robotic fingers can actually play the piano faster than a human.
The rubbery digits contract in just 50 milliseconds and are activated by pumping air into them, regulated by a computer-controlled valve.
Scientists from Harvard University led by Bobak Mosadegh came up with the design. They have already worked on earlier version that could pick up flowers without damaging them.
The technology is being used in the development of a pneumatic glove that will help in the recovery of stroke sufferers.
Future versions should be even faster and more powerful.
