Self-described messiah Russell Brand has spent the week being mocked online with the hashtag #Parklife.

The reference is of course to the 1994 Blur hit, which featured Quadrophenia actor Phil Daniels muttering a lengthy diatribe in a cockney accent, with each line capped by singer Damon Albarn belting: “Parklife!”

Online marketing expert Dan Barker started the trend when he tweeted: “Russell Brand’s writing feels like someone is about to shout ‘PARKLIFE!’ at the end of every sentence.”

Since then, almost every utterance from Brand on Twitter as he attempts to promote his new book has been greeted with the word #Parklife.

Videos splicing a selection of Brand’s more verbose statements with the Blur hit are breeding fast. And they're strangely compulsive...
