You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who think the recent Simpsons series are Matt Groening's best work - but you've got to be impressed by this, their latest, Game Of Thrones-inspired opening sequence.

Inspired by HBO's award-winning adaptation of George R. R. Martin's fantasy epics - and, more specifically, its amazing intros - it takes the steampunk-style original and gives it a throughly Springfield twist.

For those of you who haven't watched the real deal, here it is, just for you:

In the Simpsons version, there are even monkeys on the magnifying glass rims. Hell, the Kwik-E-Mart rises out of the ground and Bart leaps over Springfield Gorge dressed in a suit of armour. Arguably, it's better than the original.

This Game Of Thrones special edition intro comes just a couple of episodes after The Simpsons' 500th episode celebrations, which featured as its intro every single couch gag ever, in a row. To see what we mean, take a look at this cleverly slowed down version below. Neat, eh?
