Sunday August 19th

Went to a super depressing play about suicide. Didn't really know what I was getting myself in for. There was this LONG line of people waiting to get in to this play. (they call that a queue here)

Anyway, I thought might as well join the queue and see a show. Turns out they had one ticket left. The play was written a short while before the playwright killed herself. So..... very dark.

There were some amazing physical things that the 20 or so actors did on stage. They breathed in unison at one point, and it was a very powerful moment.

Anyway. Today was our day off from doing The Property Known As Garland. So.... after toast in the flat we took a long and wonderful hike up to the top of Aurthur's Seat. That's the mountain just on the edge of Edinburgh. Beautiful views and sunny nice weather to walk in. At one point, we got off the path and did a little bit of adventurous climbing. According to my nephew David Mertz, "mountain climbers always go the hardest way." He said that when he was about 10, and once in a blue moon, I quote him...... and go the hardest way. It makes it that much more of an accomplishment when you get to the top. We took a few photos of course. The 'you are there' tourist type photos. So you can prove that you were actually somewhere.

After our hike we managed to catch bus #35 to Leith. We walked around a bit, and saw the ocean and had a very nice lunch at a seafood place. We took the bus back in time for me to attend a playwriting workshop at Fringe Central. It was called 'Igniting the Play' and it was very good. It really spoke to the task of a dramaturg (not dramaturge) in the playwriting process. I need to cut this entry short, because the laundry room is only open until 10 P.M. and I have no clean socks left for tomorrow. Fingers crossed no one else is using the machines.
