Shoreditch's Cereal Cafe Attacked By 'Fuck Parade' Anti-Gentrification Protesters

The Cereal Cafe Was Vandalised By Protesters And No One Can Quite Work Out Why

East London's Cereal Killer Cafe has been vandalised by anti-gentrification protesters calling claiming to want to "reclaim Shoreditch".

Around a thousand people marched around Bethnal Green Road and Brick Lane, also smashing a window at a Marsh and Parsons estate agent.

The Cereal Killer Cafe was covered in paint and the word 'scum' daubed across a window.

Owner Alan Keery told the Evening Standard: "There were children there – they were terrified. The staff were absolutely terrified. It was an angry mob throwing paint at the windows.

"They had torches and pigs’ heads."

Oragnisers of the march, Fuck London, had previously said on their website: "Our communities are being ripped apart – by Russian oligarchs, Saudi Sheiks, Israeli scumbag property developers, Texan oil-money twats and our own home-grown Eton toffs.

"We don’t want luxury flats that no one can afford, we want genuinely affordable housing. We don’t want pop-up gin bars or brioche buns – we want community.

"“Soon this City will be an unrecognisable, bland, yuppie infested wasteland with no room for normal (and not so normal) people like us."

But their decision to target a cafe selling cereal baffled many people.

The Cereal Cafe opened last year following a trend of novelty cafes in the capital, and has been a rather divisive venture with many questioning how somewhere can charge £4 for a bowl in an area where child poverty is 49%.
