A United Airlines flight attendant has struck off after deploying a plane's emergency slide, exiting the aircraft and walking away while 159 passengers and six crew members watched.

Flight 1246 landed at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport from Sacramento on Monday at 11:30 a.m local time and was scheduled to continue on to Fort Lauderdale, Florida but was held up by the crew member going rogue.

It's not known why she decided to slide out of the aircraft and walk away, but we like to think she was just quitting in the most epic way possible.

A United spokesperson confirmed the flight attendant acted intentionally and that she was no longer employed by them.

"We hold all of our employees to the highest standard," a statement said. "The unsafe behavior is unacceptable and does not represent the more than 20,000 flight attendants who ensure the safety of our customers. United is reviewing the matter and they have removed the employee from her flying duties."

The flight attendant's family told KPRC2 she was doing well but refused to comment further as they said it was "a private family matter".

The news site also spoke to passengers who were on the flight, who said nothing seemed out of the ordinary until a crew member disembarked via the evacuation slide.
