Former television host and radio presenter John Leslie is being questioned by police in connection with a sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman, it has been reported.

Several newspapers have named the former Blue Peter, This Morning and Wheel of Fortune presenter in relation to the alleged incident, said to have taken place on Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday morning.

Police have been photographed removing evidence bags from Mr Leslie's home in Morningside, Edinburgh.

Mr Leslie has latterly been presenting an afternoon show on local radio station Forth 2, but is understood to have been suspended.

A spokeswoman for Forth 2 parent company Bauer Media said the company will not comment on the reports, however it is understood that one of its DJs has been taken off the air.

In response to inquiries about Mr Leslie, a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating a report of a sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman, which took place between the evening of Thursday 19 November and the morning of Friday 20 November in Edinburgh. Inquiries are currently ongoing."
