A mental health worker is to appear in court accused of helping a convicted murderer to escape.

Lerone Boye, 27, was jailed for life in December for stabbing a 17-year-old to death following a birthday party.

He was being held at the John Howard Centre in Kenworthy Road, Homerton, east London when he absconded at 2pm on October 16.

Dean Ablakwa, 29, from north London, was arrested yesterday and will appear at Thames Magistrates Court charged with conspiracy to assist an offender to escape from lawful custody, Scotland Yard said.

Police have released an image of Boyce moments before he escaped from the centre, in which he was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey-blue sweatshirt with a grey vest over the top.

Officers in Hackney are continuing to appeal for help in tracing Boyce, who is described as black, about 5ft 10in and slim, with short black hair. He has a scar on his right cheek, a goatee beard and a gold tooth in his upper row of teeth.

People are advised not to approach him but dial 999.

Boyce was ordered to serve a minimum of 28 years for stabbing Kelvin Chibueze to death at the Arteflex Club in High Road, Ilford, east London, on August 15 2011. He was chased out of a birthday party and attacked with glass and broken bottles.

Boyce's three co-accused are also serving life sentences.

Anyone with any information about Boye's whereabouts can also call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
