An extraordinary video has been posted by North Korean state media that appears to show people weeping hysterically over the death of Kim Jong Il.

The video shows many North Koreans, young and old, crouched on the floor in a public square wailing and crying in apparent collective grief over the death of their leader.

In a sign that officials are already moving to cement Kim Jong Il's son as the new leader, one 24-year-old, named as Kim Ok Song, tells the broadcaster: "I will change sorrow in to strength and courage and remain faithful to respected Comrade Kim Jong Un."
