The monkeys were given the treats as part of their varied diet that includes a mix of vegetables and insects and not only is it a great treat for them, but it is also forms part of their enrichment activity programme.John Meek, Curator of Animals at Newquay Zoo said “With Pancake Day looming, we decided it would be a nice surprise to give the animals some pancakes! The monkeys are on strict, controlled diets but this was an added enrichment treat and was made from natural ingredients, including eggs, which they would naturally eat in the wild. It didn’t comprise their dietary requirements whatsoever.”

2016 is The Year of the Monkey and Amoy has brought to life this year’s cheeky icon with the help of artist Will Vibes who added the finishing splashes to a larger than life portrait in one week, using Amoy Soy Sauce.
