ARNHEM - The nearly two-year-old Sumatran tiger twins Lara and Janine from Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem, got Thursday 5-2-2015 a health examination before their departure to a zoo in England and Hungary next week. Both tigers blood was drawn and hair was pulled out for DNA research. One of the females is also vaccinated against rabies, at the request of the zoo in the Hungarian Sosto. Sumatran tigers are an endangered species. In the wild, there are only 350 left, so there is a worldwide breeding program in zoos for the Sumatran tiger. The tiger is is still hunted in Sumatra, because people suppose that tiger products has magical powers. The habitat of the tiger is also becoming smaller because of increasing farming acitivities.
