Shoppers sheltered under umbrellas in Cambridge today (Mon) as heavy rain hit Britain - with some parts seeing more than half a month's rainfall in just six hours. The Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain in Southern England and Eastern Scotland and the Environment Agency issued flood alerts in the South West. Thorney Island near Portsmouth saw 30.4mm of rain between 6am this morning and midday, whilst the average rainfall for that area in August is usually 49.4mm.
