South Carolina Flooding Leaves 11 Dead, Hundreds Evacuated And Thousands Without Fresh Water

Flooding Leaves Thousands Without Fresh Water
|

South Carolina has been blighted by a week of heavy rain, leading to historic flooding across the state. Despite showers relenting on Monday, the governor warned the flooding could continue, especially for communities downstream of the deluge on the low-lying coast.

The flood has left more than 40,000 people without running water, and nearly 1,000 have been evacuated from their homes. Eleven people have died because of the weather, including one woman who drove around a barricade and stalled her car in rushing water. The downpours are part of system that has dumped more than a foot of rain across South Carolina in recent days.
