Everyone knows where they were on the day of the Royal Wedding – either because they were watching on the streets or at home, or because they simply had a nice day off in the sun.

Prince William, first son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, was probably the nation's most eligible batchelor for much of his young adulthood.

When Prince William looked to be in a solid relationship with a nice girl he'd met at St. Andrew's, millions of young girls' hearts set on Queendom dropped with a thud.

However, having then been together for roughly eight years, there was plenty of "will they, won't they?" as the public and the media alike began to wonder if the two would ever actually marry.

Then, in November 2010, they announced their marriage (and millions of young girls' hearts then plummeted ever further).

Suddenly, it was 29 April the following year, and "Waity Katie" was no more, replaced by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – who will one day be Queen.

Since then, their lives have been a whirlwind of royal visits, appearances, charity events and helicopter-piloting jaunts for the RAF (at least for Prince William).

The Duchess has become a patron to a number of charities and has represented the royal family on both international and domestic visits.

She has also become a media darling/obsession, gracing the cover of a glossy issue of Ok! or Hello! every single fortnight, as well as inheriting the title of "fashion icon".

It is clear that the couple will be one of the most loved of all time for the rest of their public lives.

Right now, we'll have to make do with looking back at the best pictures of the two together from the first year of their marriage.
