Amanda Hall Climbs Into Madison Zoo Giraffe Pen, Is Kicked In The Face

'Animal Lover' Scales Zoo Pen, Giraffe Responds By Kicking Her In The Face
|

A woman has been fined after she broke into a giraffe’s zoo pen and was rewarded with a lick and then a kick to the face.

According to a police report, Amanda Hall climbed over one fence of the Madison zoo and was about to get over a second when she encountered the 12-foot-tall animal named Wally.

The 24-year-old, who told officers she climbed into the exhibit because she “loves giraffes” was fined $686 for harassment of zoo animals, the Associated Press writes.

Wally flicked out his tongue, apparently didn't like what he could taste and promptly delivered a kick to Hall's face.

She is not thought to have been badly injured during the incident on Saturday afternoon.

Henry Vilas Zoo Curator Jeff Stafford Told ABC7 the giraffe was simply reacting to someone coming into its territory.

“So an animal is going to have a similar response. That’s probably what happened in this case.”

A giraffe licks its lips at the Houston Zoo Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, in Houston. The Houston Zoo started its Gift of Grub campaign to raise money to help feed the more than 6,000 animals at the zoo. It costs more than $600,000 a year to feed the animals, and due to the abnormal weather conditions across the country the cost of feeding the animals has gone up. TO GO WITH AFP STORY 'Philippines-Africa-animal-tourism-offbeat,FEATURE' BY KARL MALAKUNAS In this photo taken on September 18, 2011 giraffes feed on grass at Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in Calauit island, Busuanga province, western Philippines With a taste for tropical fruit and a reputation as thieves, a herd of giraffes on a remote Philippine island is one of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos's most intriguing legacies. The 20 giraffes, along with dozens of zebra and antelope, are descendants of a boatload of animals imported from Africa in the 1970s -- supposedly in a Noah's Ark-style effort to save them from extinction.
