Harry Potter star Jamie Waylett was jailed for two years at Wood Green Crown Court for being part of a violent mob during last summer's riots in London.

The sentence comes after he was found guilty of violent disorder during last summer's riots in London on Tuesday. However Waylett, 22, who played Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe, was cleared of being in possession of a petrol bomb.

The jury took three-and-a-half hours to reach the verdicts at Wood Green Crown Court in north London.

The actor, of Hillfield Road, West Hampstead in north London, had already admitted handling stolen goods - a bottle of champagne that had been taken from a Sainsbury's store.

Waylett, who starred in six Harry Potter movies, was part of a gang of at least four people who took to the streets of Chalk Farm, north London, on the night of 8 August last year, the third night of violence in the capital.

The star, who has a shaved head and a goatee beard, wore a white shirt with an open collar and a dark suit to hear the verdicts.

Adjourning sentencing until later this afternoon, Judge Simon Carr told the jury of five men and seven women: "Thank you very much indeed for the care you have taken on this short but important case."
