Black Voices UK is a new video series from HuffPost UK that amplifies and celebrates Black voices and experiences in Britain.

Host Yinka Bokinni, who is also the breakfast presenter on Capital Xtra, will front six episodes over the coming months to discuss topics including parenting, feminism and healthcare with special guests.

Writing for HuffPost UK, Bokinni said it would help viewers “really understand what it means to be Black and exist in the UK too”.

“This will be a collection of Black voices discussing the things that should matter not only to us, but to everyone,” she said. “The Black experience is part of the British experience.”

Episode one, which is available to watch above, focuses on education and parenting in Britain at a time when the national curriculum is facing fresh claims it fails to teach students about anti-racism and doesn’t accurately depict Britain’s colonial and imperial past

Bokinni is joined by Black Curriculum CEO Lavinya Stennett, singer-songwriter Jamelia, and CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson to discuss how teaching can better reflect the history and contributions of Black people.

Catch new episodes of Black Voices on HuffPost UK’s homepage, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts from now until the end of 2020. You can join the conversation too with the hashtag #BlackVoicesHPUK to make your contribution heard.
