Jaymes Todd, 20, who pleaded guilty to Dixon’s murder, rape, attempted rape and sexual assault, was sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in jail before he can apply for parole.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Stephen Kaye described his actions as “perverted and depraved” and “totally and categorically evil” in his sentencing remarks.

Todd, who was diagnosed with a sexual sadism disorder, followed the 22-year-old for more than 4km through Melbourne on the night of her murder.

The court Todd had fantasised about violent rape and searched online for rape material and stories about his victim.

Speaking outside court on Monday, Dixon’s father Jeremy said: “What I wish for Jaymes Todd, and I believe Eurydice would wish, is that he gets better and realises what he’s done.

“I extend my sympathy, my sincere sympathy for those who love him. It’s a terrible tragedy all around.

“Eurydice herself should be remembered as her friends will remember her – for her wit, her courage and her kindness, not for her death.”
