|

The best pictures of the week are chosen by YOU voting on our interactive slideshow.

The week may have started with a few sore heads as one of our favourite annual festivals came to an end with performances from Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Rita Ora and non other than the legendary Rolling Stones who came back to rock the stage making their first ever appearance at Glastonbury.

Well-wishers continue to stay strong for former south african president Nelson Mandela who is entering his fourth week in hospital. Further north fireworks lit the sky as Egyptian opposition protesters celebrated in Tahrir Square after President Morsi was ousted in a military coup.

And as the finals approach for Wimbledon 'Murray Mania' seems to have well and truly kicked in after a great two-set down comeback beating Spain's Fernando Verdasco.

And it just wouldn't be right if we missed out our friends in the animal kingdom, this week saw a rabbit in a hoodie go missing, A turtle addicted to smoking and a rare white tiger celebrated it's first birthday.…all in our pictures of the week

Happy voting and we will announce the winner on Monday morning.

Last year they were voted Schoenbrunn Zoo’s favourite animal. Now the meerkat family has increased substantially with the addition of six new babies. “We are of course thrilled that all six are doing great at the moment” says the zoo’s director Dagmar Schratter. “At birth, meerkats are blind and naked. They spent the first few weeks in the safety of their burrow but to the delight of the visitors they are now already exploring their surroundings running the rest of the clan off their feet.”

A snapping turtle is so addicted to smoking that it consumes 10 cigarettes every day. And if the amphibian from Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, doesn't get its nicotine fix it will race around making squeaking noises. The turtle belongs to a resort restaurant and according to Chef Tang Wenyin he let the turtle try a cigarette a month ago. Surprisingly, the turtle started to suck the butt of the cigarette, and it quickly burnt to the end. Then the next day, when Tang was enjoying a cigarette, the turtle walked over and stared at him. "I then lit a cigarette for him, and it smoked it with satisfaction." Tang added: "Now each day it needs at least 10 cigarettes, and I barely could afford its hobby. If I don't give him cigarettes, he would hover around my feet, making squeaking sounds, and chase me wherever I go".

A statement on the Egyptian president's office's Twitter account has quoted Mohammed Morsi as calling military measures "a full coup." The denouncement was posted shortly after the Egyptian military announced it was ousting Morsi, who was Egypt's first freely elected leader but drew ire with his Islamist leanings.
