Photographer Thomas Heaton, 29, managed to get some amazing shots of the Geminid meteor shower, which peaked in the UK on Saturday. He took his impressive image at St Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay in Tyne and Wear between 4.30am and 5.30am. The meteor is named after the constellation Gemini and Nasa predicted stargazers would be able to see up to 120 meteors an hour in some places. "I managed to see around 50 meteors an hour, which was an amazing sight. I took a deckchair and sat on the beach and it was much better than I expected." The annual Geminid shower can be seen from almost any point on

A schoolboy took a SELFIE of himself and PRINCE CHARLES on his mobile phone during a Royal visit to a church centre. The young boy, a member of the Coptic Orthodox Church Centre in Stevenage, Herts, took the snap as the Prince of Wales chatted to the congregation. He asked Prince Charles if he could take a photo, then quickly pressed the button before his bodyguards could intervene. He said: "I went up to him and said if I could take a photograph of him - and then well I didn't wait for the body guards to push me out of the way, I just took a picture." Prince Charles, who was wearing a navy blue suit and checked tie, is seen standing behind the little boy, looking into the camera. The Prince was visiting the church to show his support for Christians in the Middle East where for decades there have been a number of conflicts.
