A woman has live-blogged her alleged rape ordeal on Instagram, minutes after she claims she was attacked in a hostel shower.

Amber Amour, 27, says she was raped in a hostel in South Africa when a man forced her to her knees and violently assaulted her, despite her screaming for him to stop.

Alongside a picture of herself in tears in the shower, the American feminist campaigner wrote that she had passed out during the experience which left her feeling "shame, disgust, suffering".

"It was only a few minutes ago but sometimes these things happen so fast it's hard to remember all the details," she wrote.

Amour states she went to a hostel, where she had previously been staying. She decided to take a shower as she was unwell, writing: "the water at my current hostel is pretty cold".

A man she knew followed her up the stairs, she states, and invited her to shower with him.

The man had been "desperately trying to get with me", Amour writes, saying she had previously kissed him but then rejected his advances.

Amour then shared a graphic description of the rape and how she eventually passed out:

Amour, who calls on rape victims to speak out, said she decided to document the alleged attack to her 27,000 Instagram followers before going to the police. "I knew I had to practise what I preached. So the first thing I did was take a picture and write a post, describing what had happened."

She was in South Africa in November to promote her ‘Stop Rape. Educate’ campaign, which calls for education about sexual assault. She began it after she was sexually attacked in her hometown of New York.

After the original post, Amour shared another saying she was going to a hospital, and telling her 27,000 Instagram followers: "Dealing with cops is tough and the rape kit is the last thing I want - tools and metal instruments and combs all up in my private parts.... But this is what I stand for. I tell you guys to speak up every single day and I know that I need to practice what I preach. "

Some commenters on her first post suggested Amour was foolish for agreeing to shower with the man: "Seriously dont [sic] be too stupid. Im [sic] sure you're smart enough to analyze the situation," said one posted.

But another defended her, with one saying: "Alllll [sic] these idiots calling her dumb for accepting a nice shower. But none of them are saying anything about the man who RAPED her. Rape is never ok. No matter what. She accepted a shower. Not sex. She accepted a warm shower. NOT SEX. "

In a later post, Amour showed a picture of her legs in a hospital with a 'rape kit'.

"For those who wish to BLAME ME or any other survivor out there, I want you to know that you are the very reason that I am so brutally honest," she said to her critics. "I could have hidden details. I could have kept some info to myself, but NO. You need to know the truth and to see the reality of the situation. No matter what a person does, it is not an invitation for rape. It doesn't matter if I kissed him. It doesn't matter if he was drunk. It doesn't matter if I said yes to a shower. I never said he could get violent with me. I never said he could make me bleed. I never said he could rape me."

Amour is still in South Africa and a police investigation into the alleged crime is ongoing, according to The Metro.

She claims the man who raped her was arrested and has been released on bail.
