Easter Celebrations Around The World From The Pope To The New York Parade (PICTURES)

PHOTOS: Easter Celebrations Around The World
|

Easter has been celebrated around the world this weekend with some colourful (and some rather bizarre) rituals.

New York's annual Easter Parade on New York's Fifth Avenue saw an array of thematically dressed revellers take to the streets.

A man in Florida finally settled the age-old question: "Can rabbits scuba dive?"

And, oddly, men in Slovakia threw freezing water over willing women and then hit them with willow "to evoke youth, strength and beauty for the upcoming spring season".

Whatever floats your boat...

Catholic priests carry candles during an Easter vigil on Holy Saturday at the Cathedral of Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception in Moscow on March 30, 2013. Easter Vigil, also called the Paschal Vigil, is a service held in traditional Christian churches as the first official celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. While most Russians will mark Orthodox Easter on May 5, according to the old Julian calendar, Easter in the West is celebrated on March 30 by Russia's 600,000-strong Roman Catholic community. The process of dressing the Empalao in the traditional costume is taken with great care, with the family and dressers paying attention to ensure that no harm is caused to the penitent and that they are aided in their recovery, including being massaged and rubbed with rosemary alcohol.
