Discovered: The Oldest Piece Of Art In The World
|

Up until 2012, the art history books would tell you that the oldest known paintings were drawn on cave walls by our ancestors 32,000 years ago.

That was until a recent report - covered in this video by our sister site Huffington Post Arts - that explains how scientists have discovered artwork painted by Neanderthals a staggering 42,000 years ago - making the previous cave drawings look like post-modern pop art by comparison.

Described in the Daily Mail as "an academic bombshell" by Prof Jose Luis Sanchidrian, one of academics involved, the paintings were found 35 miles east of Malaga in the southern region of Andalusia in Spain.

It's a discovery that will excite art historians around the world, as previously cave drawings were thought to only date back to Homo sapiens.

So, what do you think of this Nenderthal's handiwork?
