  • Team GB rowers Katherine Grainger and Vicky Thornley took silver in the women’s double sculls, making Grainger the joint most decorated female British Olympian of all time (alongside 1920s tennis plater Kitty Godfrey Nee McKane).

  • GB’s men’s rugby 7s team were pleasantly surprised with a silver medal. They beat South Africa 7-5 in the semi-final but were beaten 43-7 by Fiji. This is the first time Fiji has ever won an Olympic medal, let alone a gold.

  • Canoeist David Florence came back from the disappointment of finishing last in the C1 final earlier this week to take silver in the C2 class alongside Richard Hounslow.

  • Things looked a little hairy for a while when Andy Murray met Italian Fabio Fognini for the third round of the men’s tennis single. The Wimbledon champion managed to pull it back though, winning 6-1 2-6 6-3.

  • US Swimmer Simone Manuel became the first African-American woman to medal in an individual swimming event with her gold in the women’s 100m freestyle.

  • Michael Phelps won his 22nd Olympic gold and in the fourth consecutive 200m individual medley title in 1:54.66 seconds. It’s his fourth gold of the Rio games. Sort of just feels like he’s showing off now, doesn’t it?

Spine-Tingling Celebration Of The Games So Far

The disappointment of Team GB losing in the final of the men’s rugby 7s was softened slightly by the spoils going to Fiji.

The small Pacific Ocean island nation won its first Olympic medal of any colour, yet this was no upset. The team’s electric, free-flowing play has already secured the world title in a sport making its Games debut.

And after running the team of English, Welsh and Scottish players ragged - the final score was an emphatic 43 to 7 - victory was savoured with a dignity seldom seen in Rio.

No fist pumps, no hysterics. Just a solemn song to prayer. Quite breathtaking.

The ‘Who-Knew-Golf-Could-Be-So-Exciting?’ Moment Of The Games

The Rio Olympics saw the introduction of golf for the first time in 112 years - and the event did not disappoint on day six.

Team GB’s Justin Rose pulled this absolute corker out of the bag during the first round of the men’s event...
