The Oxford Union – which has hosted former prime ministers and other world leaders – debated if the long held, and centuries old, tradition of roast beef and Yorkshire puddings was outdated and out of touch with modern British life. Have many Brits been wrong to serve Yorkshire puddings with just roast beef, and should they be serving them with chicken as well? Over 300 members turned out to debate if it’s “socially acceptable” to eat Yorkshire puddings with a roast chicken dinner, making a change from the usual cut and thrust debate of world politics. The debate followed research by Aunt Bessie’s, which found that more Yorkshire puddings are now being eaten with roast chicken than with roast beef on British dinner tables.
