Pakistani Air Force personnel unload relief food bags for earthquake survivors from a Pakistan Air Force plane C-130 at an airport in Chitral on October 30, 2015. The powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck on October 26 ripped across Afghanistan and Pakistan, killing nearly 390 people and levelling thousands of homes, forcing many to camp out in the open. The army has led the rescue effort in Pakistan while the government has promised aid and compensation, but with many of the affected communities isolated by rugged terrain, help may not arrive before the snow does. There are some ‘ear’ie goings on at Dogs Trust Shoreham this Howl-o-ween as the rehoming centre is playing host to an adorable resident whose enormous ears make him look like a Halloween bat!Two-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Stanley’s peculiarly giant ears, which measure a whopping 8cm long, have been the talk of the rehoming centre since his arrival earlier this month and staff have been inundated with questions from visitors keen to solve the mystery of his bat-like appearance since.Dogs Trust Shoreham has come to the conclusion that Stanley’s spookily large ears are simply an unexplained phenomenon and whilst he wouldn’t look out of place in Transylvania, staff are hoping that a local dog lover can embrace his quirky looks and offer him a loving new home!Tracey Rae, Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre says,“We are amazed by how much Stanley’s ears resemble bat wings - they have certainly become a conversation starter with staff and visitors alike! Stanley may be dwarfed by his ears but he more than makes up for it in personality. He is a fun-loving, bright boy who loves being kept busy and learning new tricks – in return for a tasty treat of course.”“Stanley is looking for an adult-only home, with no other pets, and new owners will need to have plenty of spare time to continue his training. He is at his happiest when out on his walks so would love a home in a rural location, preferably with a large garden where he can stretch his legs.”If you think you can offer Stanley a loving new home, please call Dogs Trust Shoreham on 0300 303 0292 or visit the centre at Brighton Road, Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5LT. A tremendous arachnid was spotted casting its web on Trinity Leeds’ glass dome in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 30th October), on the eve of Halloween. The mystery sighting follows the appearance of a terrifying monster with fanged teeth on the eve of Halloween last year, as blood dripped down the huge iconic roof of Trinity Leeds. It also comes on the back of recent reports by arachnologists suggesting that a new breed of giant spiders are invading people’s homes as the nights draw in to lay their eggs. A Trinity Leeds security guard spotted the creature on the glass dome as he was finishing a night shift this morning (Thursday 30th October), and commented: “I was doing my rounds this morning when I heard shuffling and what sounded like clicking pincers. Visibility was poor, but as I looked up I’m sure I could see through the shadows what looked like a giant eight-eyed, eight-legged spider on the roof.”
