Looking like a still from this Summer's Independence Day sequel - this stunning image shows the majestic eruption of Mount Etna in December. Photographer Fernando Famiani shot the spectacle from his home in Sicily. He explains: "I live in a small town in the province of Messina in the Nebrodi mountains between forests and lakes. "This is a picture of Mount Etna in Sicily taken during the eruption on 4 December 2015. The shooting expresses the eruptive power of the volcano and the size of the ash and lapilli column; you can sense the size of the country of Cesarò. "The explosion lasted around 30 minutes but days followed of copious lava spills. "I have been a photography enthusiast for years and I always like to photograph this active volcano from various angles and send more clicks and which also relate to other eruptions."
