NEW YORK -- The identity of the American Navy SEAL who shot Osama bin Laden is to finally be revealed more than three years after firing the fatal shot that ended one of the longest manhunts in recent history.

Fox News, the Murdoch-owned Republican Party mouthpiece, has landed an interview with the SEAL Team Six member, which according to the broadcaster, will be run over two nights in a show entitled, The Man Who Killed Osama Bin Laden. The documentary is scheduled to run on the 11 and 12 November.

The identity of the man known as “The Shooter” was not disclosed by the US Navy; even President Obama was not told who made the fatal shot when he met the team following their mission to Abbottabad in Pakistan in May 2011.

The press release reads: "Revealing his identity and speaking out publicly for the first time, the Navy SEAL, also known as 'The Shooter,' will share his story of training to be a member of America’s elite fighting force and explain his involvement in Operation Neptune Spear, the mission that killed Bin Laden,' the press release states.

"The documentary will provide an extensive, first-hand account of the mission, including the unexpected crash of one of the helicopters that night and why SEAL Team 6 feared for their lives. It will also touch upon what was taking place inside the terrorist compound while President Obama and his cabinet watched from the White House."

Earlier this year, “The Shooter” donated the shirt he wore on the daring raid to the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York. Fox News has not revealed whether the man will appear undisguised for the documentary.

In a 2013 interview with the magazine Esquire, “the Shooter” described the final minutes of bin Laden’s life. He said: “In that second, I shot him, two times in the forehead. Bap! Bap! The second time as he's going down. He crumpled onto the floor in front of his bed and I hit him again, Bap! Same place.

“That time I used my EOTech red-dot holo sight. He was dead. Not moving. His tongue was out. I watched him take his last breaths, just a reflex breath. And I remember as I watched him breathe out the last part of air, I thought: Is this the best thing I've ever done, or the worst thing I've ever done?

"This is real and that's him. Holy shit. His forehead was gruesome. It was split open in the shape of a V. I could see his brains spilling out over his face."
