If the seven wonders of the world ever seemed a bit passé (only the Pyramids of Giza can still be seen) this new search for natural marvels serves to right ancient wrongs.

The New7Wonders Foundation has launched a global project to find beautiful natural sites. Unlike the seven man-made monuments which were nominated last year among which Machu Picchu and Taj Mahal were honoured, this poll hopes to find places that dazzle with organic beauty.

England let the side down, with no nominations from the sceptred isle making it through to the 28 semi-finalists. However the Cliffs of Mother in Ireland can be voted for, along with the Amazon rainforest, the Maldives, and Mount Kilimanjaro. Voting will close on the Nov 11th, with the sites judged on five criteria:

  1. The uniqueness of the place's beauty
  2. Its significance ecologically both for humans and the surrounding area.
  3. The importance of its place in history
  4. It's location (has to be fair:the wonder's can't all be grouped in one place)

Which would you vote for? Does England not have any sites of natural beauty to offer?
