Sexual Predator Sajid Waseem Hassan Who Targeted 14-Year-Old Schoolgirl Jailed

'Sexual Predator' Who Targeted 14-Year-Old Schoolgirl Jailed

A "sexual predator" who targeted a 14-year-old schoolgirl to "satisfy his sexual cravings" has been jailed.

Married father-of-three Sajid Waseem Hassan, 43, of Blackburn, Lancashire, "cynically groomed" the vulnerable teenager after spotting her in the street in her school uniform and showered her with gifts before having sex with her.

He received an extended sentence of eight years and will spend 33 months in custody before he is released on licence for the remaining period.

Last month, Hassan was found guilty by a jury at Preston Crown Court of two counts of sexual activity with a child.

Hassan persuaded her to get into his car in Blackburn town centre in October 2009 and in the days that followed he gave her a mobile phone and arranged for her to visit his house.

Sentencing him, Judge Robert Altham said: "There is no doubt, based on the evidence, that having seen her you were on that day acting as a sexual predator looking for gratification.

"It is plain to me that what you did was to cynically groom this young girl for sexual activity.

"This was determined, pre-planned and persistent conduct, carried out pitilessly by you to satisfy your sexual cravings.

"You have shown no insight into what you have done. You do not accept your guilt and believe there is no victim in this case except yourself.

"The damage that you have wrought to her and her family is clearly serious and will be long-lasting."

He had shown no remorse and the judge said he was satisfied that he should be classed as dangerous and therefore deserving of an extended sentence.

Hassan, of Colenso Road, was dealt with on the basis that he had full sexual intercourse with the girl on one occasion, although the complainant said sex had taken place between 12 and 15 times.

He was cleared of a third count of committing sexual activity with a child.

Martine Snowden, prosecuting, said the victim was "not really sure" if she had rebuffed his advances when they had sex in his living room but did not have the "energy" to resist.

Sex took place without a condom as Hassan told her he had had an operation and could not have children, the court heard.

The defendant gave her a designer jacket and a pair of earrings as well as a phone.

"She felt used and stupid at not being able to see what was happening to her," the prosecutor said.

Hassan eventually took the phone off her, deleted all trace of himself and went on to tell her he "did not want anything bad to happen to me because I have kids".

A complaint was later made and Hassan was arrested and told detectives she had been bombarding him with text messages and that no sexual contact had taken place.

Bunty Batra, for Hassan, said his client was the one who had broken contact with the girl in January 2010.

He was a man of previous good character who had a "very good" worth ethic, was married and had three children under the age of 12.

He said no "undue force or coercion" had been used and alcohol and drugs had not been involved.

Judge Altham said, though, that the offending took place in the context of "some careful manipulation" of a young girl who was vulnerable for whatever reason at the time.

Hassan was also banned from working with children, placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will have to let the police know of his whereabouts indefinitely on release.
