Tory backbenchers voted on Thursday night to go to war against Prime Minister David Cameron.

The rebels - along with their Labour allies - launched their attack by shooting down a bill in Westminster.

"We have learned from the events of the Iraq war," said one Tory MP. "We're voting against our leader - which is what Labour MPs should have done back then."

Those against the war, however, have urged people to send aid to Cameron instead.

"He may be a terrible leader who has inflicted pain on his own people," one told us, "but attacking a man already ravaged by internal fighting will only make things worse."

It is not yet known whether the war will lead to a regime change.
