It's where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, so what better meeting point for Britain's goths than windswept Whitby?

This weekend the seaside town became a haven for the pale and interesting, the ghoulish and the macabre.

The twice yearly Whitby Goth Weekend celebrated it's 18th birthday, commemorating the milestone with a mix of club nights, markets, concerts, a bring and buy sale and even a charity football match between goths.

Charity is a strong theme at the event, which is otherwise an extraordinary visual spectacle and open not just to goths, but punks, steampunks, metallers, emos, bikers and people from all alternative lifestyle genres

This year there was a sponsored walk to raise money for goth teenager Sophie Lancaster, who was murdered in 2007. All proceeds will go to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation which focuses on creating respect and for understanding of subcultures.

The next Whitby Goth Weekend is scheduled for October, perfect timing for Halloween!
