Victory! HMV WILL Accept Gift Cards From Tomorrow

Following six days of complaints from the public about not being able to redeem their gift cards, HMV's administrators have confirmed that from Tuesday, the cards can be redeemed in store.

Proceeds raised by HMV through the sale of charity releases (including the Hillsborough Justice Collective single) will also be paid in full as soon as possible.

Joint administrator Nick Edwards said in a press release: "The ability of administrators to honour gift vouchers will depend on the specific circumstances of each case.

"Since our appointment as joint administrators on Tuesday afternoon, we have been urgently assessing the company's financial position. I am pleased to confirm that, having concluded this assessment, we are able to honour gift cards.

"We will continue to assess the longer term options for the business whilst continuing to trade. I am hopeful this process will result in the business continuing as a going concern."

The move will go some way to calm the public's attitude towards the administrators and HMV, following a public outcry after Deloitte initially said it would not accept gift cards as payment.

Blockbuster, the video and games retailer which also fell into administration this month, has already said it would honour gift cards at its stores.
