Well, what a day for Team GB.

In what we’re dubbing ‘Wonder Wednesday’, Britain’s Olympians helped produce its most successful day at the 2016 Rio Games as they surged up the medals table with a flurry of podium places.

  • Joe Clarke won gold in the men’s K1 at the Rio 2016 Olympics. The 23-year-old completed the course in 88.53 seconds in a tense final.

  • There were bronze medals for gymnast Max Whitlock, shooter Steven Scott, Tour de France cycling champion Chris Froome, and judo’s Sally Conway.

Second biggest mystery of the Games so far (after the green pool saga).

A second stray bullet has been found at the equestrian centre in the northern suburb of Deodoro.

There were no injuries but it follows a similar discovery at a media tent over the weekend.

It’s thought it may have come from a nearby military compound.

 

A case of mistaken identity.

Believe it or not there is more than one Joe Clarke in the UK and one of them found themselves the recipient of some undeserved praise.

Team GB Ones to Watch On Day Six

All times are in UK time.

  • Wimbledon champion Andy Murray kicks off his defence of his London 2012 tennis gold on Centre Court against Italy’s Fabio Fognini in a last-16 tie from around 15:00.
  • Gemma Gibbons will compete in the judo’s women’s 78kg category. Action starts at 14:00.

  • Track cycling begins at 20:00 inside Rio’s Velodrome. British eyes will be on the team sprint final featuring Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner.

  • Britain faces Japan in the women’s field hockey at 00:30 on Friday morning.

  • The mens rugby sevens take on South Africa from 22:30.
